MAcG'S PODACST AND CHILL'S GROWTH IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES & THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF RADIO

What a time to truly be alive, we are living through times where the old guard is being completely replaced by new age media. The internet is definitely the greatest invention by the human race and it has had unimaginable effects on everything in our society. There was a time when major corporations held all the power in the media space but the internet has completely democratised the power and has allowed individual people to build platforms that are rivaling the ''powers that be''. There are individuals whose voices and impact are now even bigger than a lot of traditional media outlets and Mac G happends to be one of those voices.

Mac G started his Podacst and Chill platform in 2018 and in the space of 3 years it has become the number one podcast in the country and is averaging more viewers in a week from an episode than most major radio stations. Yes you read that right, he is getting more viewers on a single Monday episode of his podcast than majority of the radio shows on radio in a single week. Currently sitting at 496K subscribers on Youtube,MacG's podcast is the number one platform in the media space in South Africa.Radio stations know they are in trouble and unfourtunatelly for them their time is up.

This week on his Monday Podcast & Chill episode he revealed that he was sent some confidential information that radio stations where actively doing everything in their power to try and stop the podcast in it's tracks. He says he spoke to a Twitter influencer who was allegedly paid R60,000 by a prominent radio station to speak ill of the podcast online. MacG then goes to explain how he has been approached by the heads of prime media to get him back on their radio stations but with one minor detail, either he has to stop doing his podcast immediately and only work on the radio station or they want full control of the podcast. This is always what corporations do, when something comes along that disrupts their bottom line they either buy it out or they kill it dead in its tracks. Let me break down how the Radio business works, the radio stations sell advertising space to brands and companies based off the amount of listeners they receive through out the day, the more listeners the more valuable the ad space. This is a system that has been working for radio for the last 50+ years but what they haven't accounted for is the ripple effects that the internet has caused. An episode of podcast and chill is currently the most valuable ad space on the internet in the country based on viewership and once brands and companies realise that is the day radio dies. It just doesn't make sense why a company would still pay a radio station to run an ad for them with zero ROI when they could pay for the same ad space on Podcast and Chill and get actual results. If history has taught us anything then we know corporations are always slow to adapt to the times but the day they finally take the chance on the non traditional new platforms is the day everything changes and the old world falls away.

From us here at The Gold Axis offices we applaud the Podcast and Chill team and can't wait to see how they continue to change the landscape of modern day media.
