One of the most refreshing young voices in South African youth music, Espacio Dios may just be exactly what we need in the alternative space to save us from all the mundane music coming out. His latest album ''Son of uri'' is a testiment to this, he is the perfect hybrid of everything in between modern day african music with a blend of pure creativity and bliss.

I first heard of him a couple of months ago when a friend sent me the video link to his single ''Jabulani'' and after 2:51 seconds I knew he was special. I could tell that he was different from everything that was happening or coming out in South African rap, he was breaking all the traditional rules set up in rap music and he was doing it on his own terms. The problem with so many musicians is that they follow the waves of popular culture and get lost in trying to sound like whatever is popular, great artists do the opposite, they create the waves... they don't ride them. Everything that has become the low hanging fruit in rap music from trap music to gold chains and lean cups is exactly what has diluted the art and is exactly the opposite of everything Espacio represents. While all his peers have fallen into the trap of following the wave he on the other creates his own. On his song Letsibolo latsatsing he raps ''Outcast coming through// I don't want the drip//I don't wanna sip//I don't wanna fit in'' which encapsulates his whole vibe, he exists in his own musical dimension and doesn't care for the conventional rap aesthetics and way of doing things. To be honest he reminds me of Jaden smith, he is making alternative rap music from the purest place and it is amazing to watch.

Son of Uri is a great example of finding your voice in this  chaotic world we are all livng in, where everyone is a follower and and no one is a leader. It is exactly what modern day african music should sound like and it is going to take a while for everyone to catch up to him. Espacio Dios and Muzi are the best examples we have for the kids who want to break out of the cycle and create on their own terms and we are all blessed to be living through such amazing times.
